The ads may be a little large, but it does not distract too much from the actual website. They set it up properly and it is effective in the way the public sees the newspaper.

Its a very personable website, the fact that you can comment on stories (especially if they are local) it is a nice blend of news and opinion. Although, it can start legitimacy issues on “blogs” and so forth it is a cool way to keep the community involved with their local news!

The video was clear, no image distortion, it looked as though I was watching it in the theatre. It could’ve also helped that I have a really good internet connection right now! The video is compelling, obviously because the movie is being anxiously anticipated!

Then I used KRLD.com their home page on the left hand side it has the AP videos running. I tried clicking on a link and it would not let me watch the video! Some of the pictures looked clear, the others were not so clear. But since I could not open and view the specific videos I couldn’t tell.

My story is about spending the day at the park. Especially after school and work, a lot of families come to Russell Creek Park in Plano to exercise, bond, and spend some quality time with each other. The recreation has many facilities including, but not limited to; a volleyball court, basketball court, soccer field, playground, walking/bicycle path, a fishing pond, barbeque stands, a cabana with park benches, and plenty of nature!

Media convergence has become so much of a second nature that we don’t even realize we are doing it. But that’s what makes it powerful. The media is such a wide array of information that is constantly changing. And the easy accessibility of it is what makes it to intriguing.

For an ordinary reader, this may not seem like anything bad. But to a journalist whose career and livelihood revolve around the news and gathering information this can pose as a huge threat.

Outsourcing is a controversy that may never be solved. Yes, it is cheaper for the company and production value but many people claim it is taking away their jobs. The same could apply for crowdsourcing. It may be taking away the integrity of a journalist.

All in all, I feel that too  much havoc is being created because of online blogging and outside sources. If readers want accurate information they should know to go to credible news sources. If they want opinions and subjective information, then websites and blogs are for them.

“Sex, lies, and texting” is a popular phrase often linked with the name of former Detroit Mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick.

In January of 2008 Kilpatrick was forced to pay restitution payments to the city for his convictions. However, Kilpatrick took it upon himself to cut back those restitution payments as much as 50%. His reasoning for this, was that his salary had dropped from $20,000 a month, to $10,000 a month. His attorney cited Wayne County Circuit Judge David Groner’s order stating that his payments were made adjacent to his salary. Prosecutor Kim Worthy says differently. She states that according to the county he has violated his probation while failing to show proof of a salary cut. In the meantime, Kilpatrick’s accomplice, Christine Beatty has yet to pay any restitution. Her lawyer claims it is due to unemployment.

New Sugar Tax?

If tobacco tax and seat-belt legislation passed then why shouldn’t a tax on sugar-sweetened beverages be enforced?

A group of Harvard Children’s specialists strongly feel this tax could eventually control the obesity and diabetic problems faced among young children. While the link is strong between sugar-obesity-and diabetes; that may not be the only benefit accrued from enforcing this tax.

“A national tax of 1 cent per ounce of sugar-sweetened beverage would yield $14.9 billion in the first year,” according to authors from The Journal.

Researchers know this won’t solve the entire problem of obesity, but placing tax on tobacco and enforcing a seat-belt law doesn’t solve those issues either. This tax can be a start to the end of the increase in obesity and diabetes among children.

Personally, I don’t see what’s wrong with blogging as long as readers know the difference in what is right and wrong. And that can only be done by doing your own research! If you depend on sources everywhere, your news will never be accurate.

During school and work our colleagues constantly bring up current events and their opinions on news topics. We, as peers, listen and often reciprocate our feedback.

To use others’ judgement as a reliable source is amateur; and for people to take second hand sources too seriously, are obviously not fully aware of their surroundings.

It is like Tabloid magazines/papers. The world thrives on controversy. Without it, viewers would lose interest. Blogging keeps the news world interesting, 40 years ago the people blindly believed anything that was printed in papers. Now, our more educated society has formed their own opinions. And what is wrong with that?

Blogging should not be taken as a reliable source. But should be looked at as an opinion worth considering. And if one’s feelings are so against the blog- counter argue it! So, for the sake of this never-ending argument, “Is blogging okay?”, I say yes.

Casey started his educational career by attending a Junior college in Jacksonville. After completing his Associate’s degree, he took the next steps and enrolled into the University of North Texas’s Electronic News Media program. Casey felt an instant connection to this line of work and his passion for the media is evident as many of his future goals reflect it.

Aside from reporting and volunteering at NTTV as the Nightly News Anchor/Reporter on Wednesdays; Casey has a passion for playing the Piano. His other hobbies consist of singing, and watching movies such as, Cast Away.

Casey feels his dream job would be somewhat relative to Ryan Seacrest’s TV host/ producer lifestyle. However, Casey expresses that in an ideal world, Justin Timberlake has the perfect job.

Although future goals are still being sought out, this young and energetic journalist is sure about one thing; and that is his passion for being a part of the news world. And after expressing his desire to possibly partake in a career as a “MoJo”, or, Mobile Journalist, “Casey Claiborne” will one day be a name the world knows and loves!

The set-up of this particular website is rather spacious. The way it is organized is very easy on the eyes of the viewer. The main content is placed in the center of the page, and you have to scroll down to read each story clip. A picture along with story content is what is included for each story clip.

The site is Web 1.0 with navigation on the left hand side of the site. There are links on the top of the page for shortcuts ie., home, membership, etc. The stories are easy to find and the website is not confusing to navigate through, informati0n is easily accessible and more options are available on the right side of the page.

There are many links titled “Discuss on TVSpy Watercooler” There is also an email address to the editor and a twitter contact for interactivity. The site is very open for communication, and encourages the reader to become involved.

The multimedia falls under twitter, videos, and graphics; all of which are very well designed for this website. There also extra links like “Job of the Day” for the web site’s unemployed viewers.

Overall, I am very pleased with the website and its’ design. The information is easily accessible and there is not at all too much going on to where one could lose focus.
